Crystal Meditation on Smoky Quartz

This post discusses a crystal meditation on smoky quartz.

Who is Betsy Leighton?

I’m a writer, blogger, and healer dedicated to helping individuals reconnect with their innate peace and wholeness by healing nervous system dysregulation. My personal experience with chronic illness called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) shapes my work, and my content offers tools to empower those with chronic illness to improve their well-being and take charge of their health.

I created the Sacred Self-Healing Method and am a trained and certified Safe and Sound Protocol provider, an author, blogger, and A Course in Miracles Teacher. I hold a Master of Divinity in Spiritual Counseling and am a trained spiritual mentor, with certificates in sound healingaromatherapy, nutrition, and Sacred Deathcare. I offer a self-study certificate program in the Sacred Self-Healing Method, provide spiritual counseling and coaching, courses, and supported subscriptions for the Safe and Sound Protocol.

What is MCAS?

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) is a chronic condition that affects all organ systems. It can cause severe, disabling symptoms every day, including potentially fatal anaphylaxis. MCAS often occurs with other chronic conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Managing MCAS is challenging because many healthcare providers are unaware of it, and diagnostic tests can be unreliable. Treatments include antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers, as well as avoiding triggers. Check out this post on managing MCAS.

Intention

Sacred Self-Healing relies on intention and frequency. Intention directs frequency to bring about healing. The universal formula for healing is:

Intention + Frequency = Healing.

In this expression, “frequency” refers to the specific healing modality being applied. Setting an intention is particularly beneficial when utilizing self-healing methods such as frequency and forgiveness. This post covers more information on the power of intention.

Beneficial Frequency

Beneficial frequency refers to natural vibrations that synchronize biological and Earth systems, to support overall harmony. For instance, visible red and blue light from the sun are beneficial frequencies because they regulate circadian rhythms. Likewise, Earth’s Schumann resonance is a naturally occurring frequency that aligns internal and external rhythms for health. This post discusses beneficial frequency in more depth.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness, like love, is seen as a high-frequency energetic state connected to compassion and gratitude. In contrast, emotions such as resentment and anger are thought to have lower frequencies, constricting rather than elevating well-being. Forgiveness helps elevate energy, promote emotional healing, and support physiological balance. Science hasn’t measured the frequency of forgiveness, but studies show that forgiveness can improve heart and brain patterns and help the body work more smoothly. Forgiveness brings balance, healing, and peace—both emotionally and physically. This post delves deeper into forgiveness.

Meditating on a crystal

Crystal meditation has helped me learn more about crystals and their spiritual properties.

Here are the steps:

  1. Choose a crystal or rock you have at home — one that is between the size of a pebble and a golf ball, and not sharp or precious. It could fall onto the floor, so choose a stone that won’t injure you or shatter if dropped. Nice stones to use are tumbled rose quartz, carnelian, rhodochrosite, tiger eye, clear quartz, malachite, lapis lazuli, amethyst, and citrine. Gather any pillows or blankets you need to lie comfortably on the floor, and have a notebook or journal and pen nearby.
  2. Lie on your back and make sure you are comfortably supported. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Imagine that you are rooted in the earth, with roots extending from your spine. Breathe for several minutes as you let your limbs grow heavy and relaxed.
  3. Beginning with the root chakra, place the stone at the bottom-most point of your pubic bone, between your legs, or on the floor under your legs. It doesn’t really matter where it is, just as long as it is an inch or so south of your torso. Focus again on your breath, and notice what arises in your mind’s eye. If you are a visual person, you might see a landscape, colors, shapes, etc. If you are a kinesthetic meditator, you might experience a sensation in your body associated with the position of the stone. If you are an auditory meditator, you might hear a particular tone. You might experience certain emotions, scents, and so on. Just breathe in a relaxed fashion, don’t force anything to happen, and notice what arises. You may not “see” it at first, but later, when the stone is moved, you might notice a contrast. If you notice anything, jot your notes in your journal.
  4. Next, move the stone to the second chakra, located just above your pubic bone. Again, relax, breathe for a few minutes, and notice what you “see”. Note any differences between the first and second positions of the stone. If you like, you can move the stone back to the root chakra and see if you can identify a quality that differs when it is placed on one or the other of the two chakras.
  5. Now, move the stone to the third chakra, the solar plexus, located a few inches above your navel. Follow the same steps, relaxing into having the stone in this new position. Note anything that comes up.
  6. Continue exploring having the stone on each of the remaining chakras: heart (middle of the chest), throat (between your clavicles and your Adam’s apple), third eye (middle of your forehead), and crown. For the crown, it is fine to place the stone on the pillow above your head.

Be patient

Don’t be dismayed if you don’t notice anything. It could be that the stone you have chosen holds very subtle energy. If that is the case, try another stone another time. Over time, if you do this meditation with different stones, you will develop the ability to feel the various energies of each stone — not just the qualities you read online about a specific crystal — but the particular energy pattern that exists when your body is in the presence of that crystal. This can be valuable information for creating your own healing.

Paint what you see

After practicing this meditative technique with different stones for a few months, I began to have the urge to paint the images I was seeing. My meditative style is quite visual, and in my crystal meditations I often saw or felt striking landscapes, ranging from deep underground, at the root chakra, to picturesque scenes in woods or water around the third chakra, up to columns of light at the crown chakra.

Here is a watercolor painting I did of my meditative experience with Smoky Quartz:

At the root chakra I experienced a pinkish-brownish crystalline structure.
At the second chakra I saw a cave with partly filled water, with an outlet to the sea.
At the third chakra I saw a cliff overlooking the sea with a seagull on it.
At the fourth chakra I saw a blue sky with puffy white clouds.
At the throat chakra I saw a view of the earth from miles above.
At the third eye chakra I saw a rainbow.
And at the crown I saw a column of light in the center.

Try it and have fun!

The bucket theory

The bucket theory simplifies understanding symptom reactions with MCAS. Imagine your body as an empty bucket you don’t want to overflow. Reactions to various stimuli fill the histamine bucket at different rates, forming the total histamine level (how full your bucket is). More histamine means more symptoms. By managing triggers, reducing exposures, and taking medications and supplements, you can control your bucket’s level.

Sign up for the SSP!

I’ve found the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) to be the most helpful bottom-up healing strategy if your nervous system has been overloaded with toxic exposures, including mold or non-native EMFs, chronic infections, concussions, stress, or trauma. The SSP is a passive listening therapy based on Polyvagal Theory that helps heal nervous system dysregulation. Many people with MCAS and other chronic conditions have nervous system dysregulation stemming from infections, toxic exposures, concussions, and trauma. The SSP is an easy-to-use app that lets you listen to specially filtered music for 30 minutes each day as part of a 5-hour cycle. Studies show the SSP has a profound effect on mental health and chronic conditions. Here’s a short podcast describing the Safe and Sound Protocol.
