What is aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a holistic healing modality reputed to be over 6000 years old. Aromatherapy is a type of frequency that works on the physical, emotional, and energetic levels all at once, and it can be used to reduce stress, muscle tension, pain, and inflammation, for energetic balancing, and for harmonizing moods.
Essential oils are used in aromatherapy in a variety of ways, such as inhalation, in baths, mixed with carrier oils for massage and health products, and some essential oils are even safe to ingest. Aromatherapist Joy Musacchio writes, “Essential oils are concentrated volatile aromatic compounds produced by plants. They are natural substances that are extracted or distilled from tiny molecular sacs of each botanical. They are part of the plant’s immune system and yet a separate substance created from the plant. Pure essential oils are highly concentrated extracts. Essential oils are very potent and powerful and should be used with caution and knowledge of their potency and efficacy. Essential oils are distilled/extracted from various parts of the plant or tree, wood or trunk, leaves, grass, needles, cones, flowers, flower buds, twigs, seeds, seed pod, roots, rhizomes or resin/gum.
Combining aromatherapy with divination
One way to incorporate essential oils into your spiritual practice is to use them in conjunction with divination. Aromatherapy works powerfully on the physical body, the psyche, and the energy bodies all at once. Scent is also an avenue into learning and neuroplasticity. Aromas from our childhood can trigger memories long forgotten. When an aroma is combined with a specific intention you can achieve many times the healing effect, in less time, and with longer-lasting results.
With aroma insight cards
One of my favorite ways of doing this is to choose an aromatherapy insight card, apply the designated essential oil, and meditate upon the message of the card.
The Aromatherapy Insight Cards by Jennifer Jefferies ND are a wonderful resource for intuitive aromatherapy. Each card lists an essential oil, and the included guidebook gives you a description of each oil, the metaphysical and physical benefits of the oil, and information on which chakra is associated with the oil. I have found this to be a powerful tool for meditation and gaining clarity.
Or without insight cards
However, oracle or divination cards are not required to achieve the benefits of combining intention with aroma. Many aromatherapy manuals and websites provide metaphysical information on the oils they cover, and you could look up an oil you feel drawn to. In general, if you are drawn to an oil it likely will help you.
Here’s an example
Here is an example from my life of using aromatherapy in conjunction with divination. Recently I was preparing for a contentious meeting with an individual who I held a lot of anger toward. I really wanted the meeting to go well, and I had tried many of the techniques I knew to clear anger including EFT, EMDR, Ho’oponopono forgivness, and prayer. I felt really stuck. Before the meeting, I sat down with my Aromatherapy Insight cards and asked my Guides to provide me with the card that would be most supportive for the meeting. The card I drew was Chamomile, which symbolizes “letting go.” Immediately I knew that I had the tool I needed to deal with the anger that I was still holding onto. I applied a drop of diluted Chamomile to my hands and spread it over my head, chest, and arms. I lay down and meditated upon letting go of the anger.
I went into the meeting feeling like I had mastered my anger. But halfway through I began to feel I was losing it. By chance, I caught a whiff of the Chamomile oil still clinging to my hair, and it was all I needed to regain my equanimity. The meeting was a success!
Intention
The Sacred Self-Healing Method relies on the power of intention. Intentions are more than goals, but your co-creative participation in your life path and healing. By setting an intention you add your desire to be a partner in your destiny, in combination with the seen and unseen forces at work in the Universe. Whether you are setting an intention for a successful root canal, for finding a great new job, or for a business meeting to go well, the act of putting forethought about the outcome into the process can be a powerful tool.
Intention is the driving force behind any energy healing modality, from Reiki to sound healing to prayer.
The universal equation for healing is:
Intention + Frequency = Healing
The “frequency” part of the equation is whatever healing modality is being used.
Intention can be used in health healing, job search, fitness, relationships, and pretty much everything.
